As a senior Biostatistics Assistant working at the hospital, Alepasse has witnessed firsthand the struggles faced by patients in accessing healthcare due to financial constraints. This project was dedicated to bridging the healthcare affordability gap in an underprivileged community (Matsekope) where residents were enrolled onto the National Health Insurance Scheme with no cost to them thereby granting them access to reduced medical services anytime they visit the hospital. This aligns with the United Nations SDG 3.8 which seeks to achieve universal health coverage, including financial risk protection, access to quality essential health-care services and access to safe, effective, quality and affordable essential medicines and vaccines for all.
